摘要:The Castelnuovo fortress created by the Angevins in Naples’ harbor is at the same time the main stronghold defending the city, and also the residence of its kings. Badly damaged by the many years of war it took Alfonso the Magnanimous to conquer Naples, the castle is subject to an uninterrupted renewal policy from 1442 to 1458. An undeniable military logic presides over the destinies and engineering of the castle during the reign of Magnanimous. Moreover, these works are part of a comprehensive urban renewal plan conducted at the initiative of the king. Though, this spectacular renovation is also meant to implement a prestigious artistic control policy that reflects the cultural and political acculturation of the king of Aragon in the Italian context.
