摘要:The purpose of this work is to explore what is currently been done in the area of L2 reading comprehension. The intention of this case study is two-fold: (1) to see if teachers’ beliefs and perceptions regarding this field of study are shared among themselves and (2) to analyze how far these beliefs and perceptions relate to the existing theory in this area. Two teachers of English currently working at CADS (Colegio Atlántico del Sur, Argentina) participated in this study, each one in charge of a different class where their students’ level of English competence was intermediate. The instruments of data collection designed and used for this study were teachers’ interviews and questionnaires and a class observation sheet. The results obtained revealed that these teachers considered reading comprehension as a pivotal tool to learn a foreign language per sei and to develop critical thinking. Some recommendations were finally given to continue investigating this area.
