摘要:In the context of the foreign policy of the Second Spanish Republic in Latin America (1931- 1936), the case of Peru is little known. This article examines its main characteristics, in several complementary aspects. It studies the diplomatic agents stationed in Lima; it analyzes their understanding of the internal situation in Peru, paying special attention to the political alternatives and social movements; it details their defense of Spanish interests, assisting the Spanish colony, participating in diverse public demonstrations, and collaborating in cultural activities, in particular the centennial anniversaries of the foundation of Lima and Cuzco; finally, it traces their role in monitoring Spain’s mediation in Peruvian conflicts with Mexico and Colombia.
