摘要：This article studies a main aspect of the Buenos Aires agrarian expansion in the first half of the Nineteenth Century: the dificulty to obtain cheap and stable workers for the large ranches («estancias») and the attempts to establish differents kinds of forced labor to solve this problem. The author analizes the failure of this attempt and discusses this case in the light of some theories concerning the origin of coerced labor.
