摘要：The Aran Valley (Catalonia, Spain) presents a very peculiar situation in linguistic and sociodemographic terms. The aim of this article is to analyze the process of identity construction in this territory and the role of language in this procedure. Our first theoretical step regards language and identity relationship as a non cathegoric and universal fact. This relation is a social construction that converts the language in the most important expression of ownership to the collective. In the Aran Valley case, the Occitan-aranes language plays an important paper in the collective identity construction, but this paper has different significance between subjects, depending mainly on their identification.
