摘要：La monografia di Edward Nye – Mime, Music and Drama on the Eighteenth-Century Stage uscita per la Cambridge University Press nel 2011 – ha il merito di rilanciare una solida riflessione sul ballet d’action, contestualizzandone i caratteri all’interno della temperie culturale, letteraria e filosofica del Settecento.L’autore, con brillante acume e attenta ricerca storica, tocca e attraversa le questioni più dibattute del nuovo genere, offrendone un’inedita chiave di lettura.La recensione ripercorre gli snodi principali e la struttura del volume, sviluppando ulteriori considerazioni su alcuni degli aspetti più stimolanti offerti dal testo.

The author, with brilliant insight and careful historical research, explores the most debated issues of the new genre, providing an unusual interpretation. The review traces the focal points and the structure of the book, developing further consideration of some of the most challenging aspects offered by the text.
