摘要：Between 1877 and 1878, during the Independence War, Romanians spread all over the world, contributed decisively to the fulfillment of national ideals, by proving a great spirit of sacrifice and flexibility. Taking into consideration this historical context, we shall not forget to mention the remarkable personality of Melchisedec Ștefănescu, who was not only a Bishop, but a great Patriot. Possessor of an impressive cultural knowledge, being associated to a sharp mind and a militant with an unshakeable faith in Christian values, Melchisedec Stefanescu took part in all the major moments of national revival process in the second half of the nineteenth century. Because of his exhortations, the clergy of the Lower Danube Diocese contributed substantially to the victory of the struggle for independence. This article presents in detail the acts and deeds that church ministers in this part of the country have taken for the purpose aforesaid.
