摘要：Resumo: O principal objetivo deste artigo é propor interpretações do romance Jasmine , da escritora indiana-estadunidense Bharati Mukherjee, através da releitura de passagens e episódios emblemáticos do mesmo sob a perspectiva das interações e afastamentos recíprocos entre o Ocidente e o Oriente. Para tanto, estabelece-se uma via criticoteórica que abarca os avanços dos Estudos Culturais, a vanguarda e a pujança das teorias feministas, os entrelaçamentos entre o feminismo e o pós-colonialismo, a crítica aos binarismos linguísticos saussureanos e os novos entendimentos sobre o Orientalismo. Palavras-Chave: Estudos Culturais – Feminismo e Pós-Colonialismo - Orientalismo Abstract: The main aim of this article is to propose interpretations of Jasmine , a novel by Indian-American female writer Bharati Mukherjee, by means of the re-reading of certain of its passages and episodes under the perspective of the reciprocal interactions and gaps between the West and the East. To accomplish that, some critical and theoretical assumptions have been privileged, namely the assessment of the advancements of the Cultural Studies, the avant-garde nature of the feminist theories, the deep liaisons between feminism and post-colonialism, the approach of the Saussurean linguistic binarisms, and the contribution of the new views on Orientalism.
