  • 摘要:La Picola (Santa Pola, Alicante) is a fortified port to the south-east of Elche. Built c. 430 BC, it was abandoned within a hundred years. The surviving structures indicate that the same unit of measure was employed at every stage in the building of the port. This foot —equivalent to between 29,7 and 30 cm— is the basis of everything from mud bricks to the settlement's ground-plan. The network of streets and buildings is organised symmetrically, using a five-fathom or 30-foot division; houses are two fathoms or 12 feet wide. This type of modular organisation is probably Greek in origin.
