摘要：On the premise of high infant mortality in the early medieval period, this paper attempts an approach to life expectancy of children taken in at the Santa Creu hospital in Barcelona, during the first half of the 15th century. One of the functions of the hospital was to host foundlings and ensure their survival and integration into society. To fulfil these functions a set of documents were drafted, although only parts of then survive, providing interesting information on the topic of this paper. We present data on mortality in the various stages of childhood, the incidence of outbreaks of epidemics, the information we have been able to obtain on diseases the remedies, causes of death and infant burials.
