摘要：This study discusses the issue of social and economic development, the advances in information technology and communication, and the needs for new skills that make the librarian an increasingly competitive professional in the labor market. The study includes, among other things, the informational trends that led organizations to invest and seek for information and knowledge on several fronts, including the Information and Knowledge Management. With the goal of adding value to the activities performed by librarians, information becomes the main asset for the qualification and creation of new skills. Aiming at the good performance of libraries, this study aims to verify the administrative theories combined with the role of the librarian acting in the information and knowledge management, where information is regarded as essential to the proper functioning of any organization. Thus, it is necessary the formation of a librarian professional competent, responsible and committed to the quality of their services. However, the librarian manager tends to perform virtually all base activities of the information and knowledge management mentioned in the theoretical framework in question, they also tend to build a creative and dynamic entrepreneurial profile, aiming at a permanent learning in their area.
