摘要：In contemporary society, photographs are produced daily and recorded both in traditional (paper) and electronically. Even with the great importance of these documents they have not always been given the due attention. The area of Library and Information Science has increasingly been striving to propose new forms of image representation in view of the organization and preservation of memory. This article aims to draw attention to the need for informational treatment of photographs as well as the necessity of organization and description of the photos, so that there is improvement in information retrieval. This is an exploratory research and it relies on the literature method for the conduct of this research. The Panofsky-Shatford image analysis was used, and, as an appropriate tool for indexing, archiving and retrieving image information, the software Kalimages is presented. As a result it was observed that the use of this software helps and improves treatment and organization of photographic collections. However, it was realized that it is not well known and it is expensive. We conclude that the photographs should be understood as a collection of memory essential to society.
