摘要：This paper provides a short overview of the protocol, including its development and functionality. Two specific applications of immediate interest to the library community are described. First, the use of the protocol in building virtual union catalogues is examined, and comparison made with the centralised union catalogue model. Second, the Union Catalogue Profile will be outlined. This profile is proposed to allow updating of centralised union catalogues and local systems by cataloguers working on local systems.
