摘要:Digitisation is the current project buzzword in cultural institutions throughout the world and is spreading rapidly around Australia. The replacement of traditional photography with digital techniques in the production of preservation surrogate images of collections will have far-reaching implications on conservation and preservation departments. During 2001, the National Library of Australia (NLA) commenced a project to produce, from paper-based and photographic originals, around 40,000 digital images. This had a large impact on Preservation Services in terms of staffing, resources, and treatment needs. The paper will discuss this impact and hopefully provide some pointers in the process of preparing collections for digitisation.
