摘要：In this scientific research, the writer wants to improve his translating skill bytranslating an English novel entitled A Friend in Barcelona written by ScottMackay, and to ease understanding the story. The novel has an interesting storyabout a captain of German U-boat named Hermann Paul Goerlitz, he is really aproper captain for any submarine because he never gives up and he always triesto avoid his men to be killed. Those are the reasons that the writer takes thenovel to be the source text. In this research, the writer used some expertstheories in order to ease his translating process that has seven steps to make agood translation: Tuning, analysis, understanding, terminology, restructing,checking, and discussion, and some definitions of translation that the writer usedfor his helper. After finishing the translation, the writer feels that his translatingskill more improved, and the writer catches the story well. The writer thinks thattranslating skill should be improved often to be a better translator. Key Words: Translation, Novel, A Friend in Barcelona
