  • 摘要:The reason why the writer interested in analyzing similes is because it isimportant to know the contextual meaning of the similes in the lyrics of Englishlove songs. There are so many similes included in the song lyrics especially inlove song. Similes are one of the most frequently used figures of speech.Therefore, the writer focused on researching the contextual meaning of similesin the lyrics of English love songs. The major aims of this research are todescribe three kinds of similes and to explain the contextual meaning of similesin the lyrics of English love songs. This research uses descriptive qualitativemethod. By using this method, the writer collected the data which relate to theresearch. The use of this method is related to the problem formulation discussedin this research, which focused on explaining the contextual meaning of similesin the lyrics of English love songs. The sources of the data were taken from fiftyfour lyrics from forty five singers. The result of this research shows that thekinds of similes are similes using verbs, similes using nouns and similes usingadjectives. The markers of those similes are like, as and asas. Similesmarked by the word like is the most frequently used. And the similes usingnouns becomes the most frequent subcategory. The meaning of similes in thelyrics of English love songs varies depending on the context.
