摘要：ABSTRACT :The topic of paper is �The Cuckoo Clock of Doom� written by R.L Stine.It is an interesting short story to read. To find out the meaning of the short story,the writer then translates it into Indonesian. The aims of study from thisresearch are to translate the short story �The Cuckoo Clock of Doom�, thefind out the problems in translating the text and to find out the solution to theproblems. The writer is allowed to make changes in translating the text from thesource language, as long as they don�t change the meaning. Beforetranslating the text, the translator should know what the meaning of the text is,because a good translation is not focused on words but on the understanding ofthe meaning. The short story of �The Cuckoo Clock of Doom� a fiction.All the characters and even portrayed in this book are fictions. The writer usedtheory of translation and dictionary of idioms to analyze the data. All of that arethe important things to make a good translation. The work of translating issuccessful if the target language reader do not recognize the work as thetranslation at all, so translator must emphasizes the factor above. Aftertranslating the short story of R.L Stine, the writer has found out difficulties suchas idiomatic expression, grammatical structure and situational context. ii
