摘要:In this research, the problems are what isthe tendency made by the fourth yearstudents in translating gesture with nonverbalcommunication and what are thestudents’ reasons in choosing the tendency.The aims of why the writer conducted aresearch about this is because the writerwould like to find out the tendency whichis made by fourth year students intranslating gesture with non-verbalcommunication and to find out thestudents’ reasons in choosing the tendency.In arranging this research paper, the writerused a quantitative research, which is tofind out the percentage of the tendency intranslating gesture with non-verbalcommunication and use a survey to findout the percentage of it. The results of thisresearch are the tendency which is madeby fourth year students in translatinggesture with non-verbal communication isimplicitly and the students’ reasons inchoosing implicit gesture implicitlybecause reason c: the readers can stillunderstand the meaning of intendedgesture with the percentage of 31,2%,reason d: Indonesian language systemallows a meaning to be expressed bygesture with the percentage of 27,5%,reason b: the intended meaning of thisgesture has the same meaning inIndonesian with the percentage of 26,9%,reason a: this translation doesn’t ruin theintended meaning of the source textgesture with the percentage of 13,1%,reason e: others with the percentage of1,3%. From the degree of the percentageabove we can see that the highest reasonswhich are chosen are reason c (31,2%) andfollowed by reason d (27,5%). Both ofthose reasons indicate that the students arefamiliar and comprehensible about themeaning of intended gesture so that theytranslate implicit meaning of gesture withnon-verbal communication implicitly.
