摘要:ABSTRACT :The problems of this research are what is the contextual meaning of Indonesianidioms and what are the types of Indonesian idioms. The aims of this researchare to describe the meanings of Indonesian idioms and to describe the types ofIndonesian idioms based on its context. The writer used the qualitativedescriptive method and Tempo Magazines as the source of the data. From theanalysis, it can be concluded that idioms have figurative meaning. There aremore than 100 of Indonesian idioms but the writer only takes 100 data ofIndonesian idioms in Tempo Magazines. After that, the writer classified theidioms into two main categories and their sub-categories. Of the 100 idioms,they are Indonesian idioms with secondary meaning are 84 or 84% andIndonesian idioms with primary meaning are 16 or 16%. The Indonesian idiomswith secondary meaning are 84 or 84%, 1) adjective and noun idioms are 7 or7%, 2) adjective and adjective idioms are 3 or 3%, 3) verb and noun idioms are31 or 31%, 4) verb and adjective idioms are 6 or 6%, 5) noun and noun idiomsare 12 or 12%, 6) noun and adjective are 18 or 18%, 7) preposition and nounidioms are 5 or 5%, and 8) preposition and verb are 2 or 2%. The Indonesianidioms with primary meaning are 16 or 16%, 1) verb and noun idioms are 9 or9%, and 2) noun and adjective idioms are 7 or 7%. The writer hopes thisresearch could be used as considerable and useful matter in helping the readersin understanding idioms, especially Indonesian idioms.
