摘要:In every writings, not only in poems or poetries, but also in any prose, we often find a simile.Simile is a part of figures of speech which compares two objects directly. Simile is easier toidentify because it has some markers which are “Like”, “As”, and “As…as”. The problems ofthis research are: what words mark a sentence as an English simile and what is the contextualmeaning of English simile in prose. The aims of this research are to describe the words thatmarked a sentence as an English simile and to describe its contextual meaning in prose. All ofthe data were taken from the book entitle Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul III. In this research,the writer uses a descriptive qualitative method which is not only on collecting and arranging thedata, but also covers analysis and interpretations of the data. From 100 data of similes, the writerclassified them into three main categories and three sub-categories. There are 52 % similesmarked by the word “Like”, 28 % similes marked by the word “As”, and 20 % similes markedby the word “As…as”. The writer also included the explanation of the contextual meaning of thesimiles.
