摘要:Teaching reading to young learners needsdifferent methods and techniques fromteaching reading to adults since younglearners have specific characteristics andlimited knowledge and vocabulary. Theproblems of this research are whatteaching methods, techniques, and mediaemployed in teaching reading to younglearners. The aims of this research are todescribe the methods, techniques, andmedia used in teaching reading to younglearners. To obtain the data the writerconducted a nonparticipant observationand an interview with the class teacher.The numbers of the students observedwere ten students and the number ofteacher observed was one reading teacher.From the class observation and interview,it can be concluded that the teacher usedfour different teaching methods inteaching reading to young learners: theCommunicative Language Teaching, theGrammar Translation Method, the WholeMethod, and the Multiple-IntelligencesMethod. The technique employed wasDirected Reading-Thinking Activity andthe media used were textbook, pictures,and whiteboard. The writer hopes that thisresearch could be used as considerable anduseful matter in helping readers inunderstanding methods, techniques, andmedia in teaching reading to younglearners.
