摘要:There are many purposes to evaluate thetextbook. The most important reason is tohelp teachers in the choice of a textbook,in other words, to get teachers to be moreaware of using textbook. The problems ofthis research are: Is “Welcome to English”,the textbook used by the 4th gradestudents of SDN Pondok Cina 5 Depok,fully fulfill the criteria that used by thewriter in evaluating the textbook and isTotal Physical Response (TPR) methodsuitable in handling the weaknesses of thetextbook. The aims of this research are todescribe if the “Welcome to English”textbook fully fulfill the criteria that usedby the writer in evaluating the textbookand to describe whether TPR methodsuitable in handling the weaknesses of thetextbook. In this research, the writer uses adescriptive qualitative method which is notonly on collecting and arranging the data,but also covering analysis and interpretingof the data. The result of this research are“Welcome to English” textbook does notfully fulfil the criteria that used by thewriter in evaluating the textbook. Thewriter finds three weaknesses which are:the lack of activity that involve thestudents physically and mentally, the lackof positive atmosphere and attitudetowards English and there is no activitythat develops children’s imagination. Inhandling these weaknesses, TPR seemsvery suitable to use by the teacher.
