摘要：ABSTRACT :The Thesis is entitled An Error Analysis on The Usage Gerunds and Infinitivesof The Second Year Students of English Department, of Faculty of Letter,Gunadarma University is conducted to give the answer of the questions, whatare the cause of errors and how far the students understand in using gerunds andinfinitives. The aims of study in this research is to find out the cause of errorsand how far the students understand of using gerunds and infinitives. Thepopulation is 140 students, who were from one writing class of the second yearstudents. Forty-six students were chosen as the sample. It was 30% from thepopulation. In this thesis, the writer uses a descriptive research and also fieldresearch. The source of data is the students test consisted 20 questionsconcerning the using gerunds and infinitives. The result of the study show that44.19% students made errors in using gerunds, 55.56% students made error inusing infinitives and the total percentage of students errors is 49.5%. The writerconcludes that most of the second year students Faculty of Letters GunadarmaUniversity 2004 2005 do not understand how to use gerunds and infinitives.
