  • 摘要:This research analyzes twenty two lyrics which are written by male and femalesongwriters based on Robert Sylvester Kelly’s song. I Believe I Can Fly, I Wish, SameGirl, Honey, Imma Flirt, Bad Man, Up And Outta Here, When A Woman's Fed Up, YouRemind Me Of Something, I Can't Sleep Baby, I'm Your Angel compared with Someday, IDon't Wanna Cry, You Need Me, Alone in Love, All in Your Mind, Hero, Dream Lover,When I Saw You, I Am Free, Butterfly, My All, Always Be My Baby by Mariah Carey, asthe source data. The problem of this research is whether there are any similarities anddifferences between Robert Sylvester Kelly and Mariah Carey in using figure of speech,simile, metaphor, personification and colloquialism in their songs? And what do thefunctions figure of speech in their songs? The aim of this research is to describe thesimilarities and the differences figure of speech, simile, metaphor, personification andcolloquialism and find the functions figures of speech in their songs. In this researchuses a qualitative method. The data consist of similarities and differences from both of theAmerican songwriter by R. Kelly and Mariah Carey in using style in their songs, with thepercentages 35 % of similarities and 65% of differences. Based on the data that are foundin this research, the writer found that Robert Sylvester Kelly’s songs used figures ofspeech more often than Mariah Carey’s songs, and Mariah Carey’s songs more oftenused hyperbole than Robert Sylvester Kelly’s songs and generally, Mariah Carey’s songstend to be more obedient with the rules, and more polite in using vocabularies thanRobert Sylvester Kelly’s songs
