摘要:This study aims at describing the degree of accuracy in the translation of culturalwords from Indonesian into English which have been done by the translators.The sources of data was taken from two Indonesian Novels entitled MerekaBilang Saya Monyet, and Kisah dari Sana-sini, Cerita dalam Dua Bahasa,and the English versions entitled They say Im a Monkey, andNeighborhood Tales, a Bilingual Collection of Short Stories. Those novelswere chosen because they consist of many cultural words representingIndonesian culture. The translations were assessed into accurate and inaccurate.The grading was based on a grading guide suggested by Nida and Taber. Theresult of the analysis shows that the degrees of accuracy in the translation ofcultural words are categorized fair. The translators still encountered somedifficulties in finding the closest natural equivalent in translating the culturalwords. In other words, the translators still find it difficult to re-express themeaning of the source language into the target language accurately. But in somecases, the translators could communicate the meaning accurately. It can beconcluded that there are no translators who able to produce a perfect translation.In this research, the writer found that equivalence by modifying a generic wordis often used by the translators in translating the cultural words.
