摘要：Stylistics is one of the study in linguistics which studies the certain aspects invariation of language called style. Stylistics includes the elements of stylesuch as imageries, conjunction, and punctuation which show the way ofexpressing. In The Luck of Roaring Camp, Bret Harte described the criminals,gamblers and whore as the characters that have good characteristics. They havecontradictive characteristics; good and not good. Bret Harte strengthens thosecontradictive characteristics by using the elements of stylistic. The using of thestylistic elements empower in conveying the theme of the story in The Luck ofRoaring Camp. The aims of this research are to find out the stylistic andlinguistic features and also the contradictive things which use the stylistic andlinguistic features used by Bret Harte in The Luck of Roaring Camp. Themethod used in this research is qualitative method. By using qualitative methodthe writer analyzed quotation and showing the stylistic and linguistic features inThe Luck of Roaring Camp. After analyzing the stylistic and linguistic elementsby using some theories, the writer concludes that there are several stylistic andlinguistic elements such as metaphor, personification, parsprototo, simile,adversative conjunction, and separation mark ( - - ) in the story The Luck ofRoaring Camp, which support in conveying the theme of the story that isHuman beings and nature have contradictive characteristics.
