  • 摘要:There are many purposes to evaluate the textbook. The most important reason isto help teachers in the choice of a textbook, in other words, to get teachers to bemore aware of using textbook. The problems of this research are: Is Welcometo English, the textbook used by the 4th grade students of SDN Pondok Cina 5Depok, fully fulfil the criteria that used by the writer in evaluating the textbookand is Total Physical Response (TPR) method suitable in handling theweaknesses of the textbook. The aims of this research are to describe if theWelcome to English textbook fully fulfil the criteria that used by the writer inevaluating the textbook and to describe whether TPR method suitable inhandling the weaknesses of the textbook. In this research, the writer uses adescriptive qualitative method which is not only on collecting and arranging thedata, but also covering analysis and interpreting of the data. The result of thisresearch are Welcome to English textbook does not fully fulfil the criteria thatused by the writer in evaluating the textbook. The writer finds three weaknesseswhich are: the lack of activity that involve the students physically and mentally,the lack of positive atmosphere and attitude towards English and there is noactivity that develops childrens imagination. In handling these weaknesses,TPR seems very suitable to use by the teacher. Key Words: Evaluation, English, Textbook
