摘要：Keyword : FAMILIARITY, BRITISH ENGLISH, AMERICAN ENGLISHABSTRACT :The English language is distinguished into different varieties, but the commonvarieties are American English and British English. The noticeable feature ofthese varieties is the usage of vocabulary. A person uses different variety ofEnglish as anyone else because of the influence of media he has got and theculture that would strongly affect him in acquiring English language vocabulary.The purpose of this study is to find out the variety of English which morefamiliar to the 1st grade students at Cakra Buana Junior High School andexamines the media uses by them to acquire vocabularies. The whole part of thisresearch employs quantitative and qualitative methods. The writer also usesquestionnaires to gather the data from the young learners supported by manymaterials related to the topic. Based on the data that are found in this research,the writer found that the young learners are more familiar with AmericanEnglish as evidenced by the number of words they know. The percentage forAmerican English is 62% and British English is 38%. Also, the kinds of mediathat they used to acquire vocabulary are printed media and television program.From these media, they commonly seen or heard the American English words.
