摘要：This research aims to examine how the adjustment in couples where the ethnicdifference between the Batakness and Javanese ethnicity in maintaining theintegrity of marriage. Marital adjustment is the change that occurred during themarriage between husband and wife to be able to meet the needs, desires, andexpectations of each party, and to solve existing problems so that both partiesfeel satisfied. Marriage is a cultural difference that marriage between coupleswho come from backgrounds different cultures, where there is a union ofthinking and different ways of life, which aims to create a happy home andconserved based on Belief in God Almighty. The sample in this study were amarried couple who married in a different culture. Where is the ethnicbackground of the husband and wife Batakness background of Java. Datacollection techniques done with interviews and observation. Types of interviewsconducted in this study are in-depth interviews (in-depth interviews). Thisin-depth interviews is very valuable, especially when the problem to be exploredinformation-rich nature. Type of observation used in this study usingnon-participant observation, where the researchers were not directly involved indaily activities subject and couples in marital adjustment process. From theresults of data analysis carried out showed that the subject and the couple have apretty good adjustment. It can be seen from the subject of domestic harmonyand couples as well as the suitability and similarities between theirinterests. Adjustment of the subject of marriage and couples can work well evenif there are cultural differences between them because of the intersection ofBatakness culture and the culture of Java is the same puts the value ofrespect. This value is shown in the form of mutually respectful behavior, realizethat there are no differences make an, adjust themselves with the demands of therole and want to learn each other's cultural partner, in this case Batakness andJavanese culture. Communication and agreement is the cornerstone in livingtheir lives the subject of marriage and couples, as it can solve the existing problems in the marriage of subject and partner. And the factors supporting thesuccess of inter-ethnic marriages and couples subject is the openness factor inmarriage which is required of openness to one another so that problems can bediscussed there and find the best solution for these problems.
