摘要:Increasingly prevalent phenomenon of polygamy in recent years, mainlybecause of the vulgarity shown by its prominent role model in the bureaucracy,politicians, artists, and even clerics. In Indonesia alone says polygamy is not aforeign word to most people, the majority religion of Islam. Polygamy is amarriage bond in which one party (the husband) who marry several wives at thesame time. The question of polygamy itself is always interesting for theattention of men, most of whom make polygamy as part of his obsession, but forwomen who do not like polygamy and considered it as something that couldjeopardize the position and role as a wife. Because self-esteem is an individualneeds to gain competence, respect and expectations from others, thisrequirement can be obtained through self-achievement and ability, prestige,popularity, status, or descent. The fulfillment of this requirement will result inflavor and attitude of confidence, feeling worthless, feeling strong and capableof exposure above, then the question arises how the image of self-esteem inwhich the wife in polygamy and the factors that influence self-esteem and howthe impact of polygamy on dignity of a wife. The purpose of this study was todetermine why a woman can receive to the polygamy and to know thedescription of her self-esteem, and to investigate factors that affect the dignity ofthe polygamy wives. The subjects used in this study is three wives, with thecharacteristics of a wife who is lawfully married under the laws of governmentand religion. Data collection techniques in this research using interview andobservation method with subjects and significant others. In this interviewprocess, to assist the process of data collection, the researcher is equipped with aguidance interview and observation. After doing research on all three subjectshad a positive assessment on themselves based on components of self-esteem,and the factors influencing self-esteem but, based on the potential impacts ofpolygamy is acceptable subject, three subjects had a negative assessment of himkey words: esteem
