摘要：María, la hija del jornalero –una de las novelas de más éxito publicadas durante el reinado de Isabel II– contiene numerosas referencias a las artes visuales, museos, lugares históricos y teorías artísticas. Estas menciones poseen un importante significado para analizar las relaciones entre gusto y política en ese período. Este artículo trata de demostrar que las cuestiones estéticas están profundamente involucradas en el discurso del liberalismo. A lo largo de la novela podemos ver el desprecio hacia la ostentación, asociada a la iglesia y a la aristocracia; la conexión entre liberalismo y estilo nacional; la entusiasta descripción de lugares destinados a expresar la libertad, la transformación de la elegancia en una identidad liberal; o finalmente, el uso de las imágenes artísticas en la sociedad liberal.
其他摘要：María, la hija del jornalero –one of the most successful novels published in Spain during the reign of Isabel II- contains many references to the visual arts, museums, historical places and art theory. These mentions bear important meaning in order to analyse the relationships between taste and politics during this period. This article tries to prove that aesthetic questions are deeply involved in the discourse of liberalism. Throughout the novel we can see disdain toward ostentation, associated with the church and the aristocracy; the connection between liberalism and national style; the enthusiastic description of places designed to express freedom; the transformation of elegance into a form of liberal identity; or finally, the use of artistic images by liberal society.
