摘要:With the constant need for education and training of professionals in a large country such as Brazil we have observed an increased expansion of distance education courses. In Brazil, distance education is supported, sponsored and promoted by the Federal Government. Nevertheless, two problems hinder the widespread adoption of this educational practice in the country: the high number of dropouts and low-performing students. These problems appear due to the lack of intelligent and personalized assistance and the sense of isolation and frustration resulting from the absence of meaningful social interactions in distance education environments. Thus, this paper aims at discussing how research achievements on Intelligent Tutoring Systems and Affective Computing can help to reduce these problems. We also list some of the main challenges in both areas and present perspectives of future research trends
