摘要：This research highlights the facilitating role of knowledge management in research and development (R&D). Knowledge management meets the essential requirements of problem solving, generation of new ideas and productivity enhancement activities of R&D organizations. R&D processes are different from typical organizational processes with well defined procedures and instructions. In R&D, knowledge creation, capturing, organizing, storing and its utilization, all are going in parallel and require utmost care for maximizing benefits. There is significant potential for improvement in the performance of R&D organizations. Recent global financial recession has resulted in scarcity of resources and is most likely to hamper investment in R&D; therefore, it is envisaged to improve efficiency and outcomes so as to attract uninterrupted investment. This research identifies key issues in launching knowledge management initiative in the R&D organizations. Furthermore, knowledge management tools, strategy and roadmap for subsequent application were discussed. Various parameters being used for measuring R&D performance were described. The conclusion of this research is that performance of R&D organizations can be enhanced by using knowledge management.
