摘要:Laterality refers to the fact that the two hemispheres of brain are roughly symmetrical in appearance, but not in structure and functions. It implies that certain functions are differentially represented in the two sides of the brain. The nature of hemispheric asymmetry, however, is yet not been unambiguously established. This review examines the available evidence pertaining to assessment of functional laterality. The empirical evidence from studies involving preference, motor performance and perceptual asymmetries is critically analyzed. The discrepancies and methodological issues are analyzed. It is concluded that multitask studies are warranted in which participants perform on multiple measures. Also, handedness, which is a marker of laterality, needs to take into account not only the left- and righthanders but also the mixed-handers also.
