摘要：UNESP, through Pró-Reitoria de Extensão university extension program, in agreement with Sao Paulo State Government, created a pre-university program in 21 cities in São Paulo State, expecting to serve 3,500 students. It is a democratic initiative and far social reaching. In FOSJC/UNESP the program is named PreVest. The present quantitative approach study, , has a target population of all students who passed the assessment stage of cognitive and socio-economic analysis. Among the 212 candidates, 31.1% were approved with an average ranging between 5.0 and 8.0. Among the 66 approved on the first stage, 51.5 were selected in the second stage, in which the entry criterion was the socioeconomic situation. Among the 34 approved, 91.2% were approved in good higher education units . They all came from in public schools, and their monthly income was between R$ 601.00 and R$ 900.00. When asked about their reading habit , 70.54% reported that they read one book a month at least. Television, reading and music are the resources used during free time. Television is the media used by 85.29% to access national and international news. In the selected group, 29.4% made no extracurricular course, 17.6% are having English classes, and 38.24% are having computation classes. When the point is the use of microcomputer, 32.35% "have experience" and 61.76% have only little knowledge, nevertheless they access the Internet. These results indicate that the project goal was achieved, firstly because 91.2% had selected the socioeconomic conditions and second, because their per capita income was not enough. It is important to the definition, planning and implementing the actions defined by the local responsible team, putting the program into operation and evaluating the steps of the process. This is the moment for social responsiveness to come true, it is the time that actions are implemented and evaluated. In the first year the approval rate demonstrates that Prevest attended a share of poor students in Sao Jose dos Campos, not by social pressure, but by historically have drawn their commitment with the social issues associated with the local realities: that's social responsiveness.
