摘要：This paper focuses on Owen Sound's relation between the port and the settlement, and how the port played a major role in a town rising to the city status. Owen Sound history is, though important for Canadian history may be, an adequate case study of the role of ports in generating communities as well as of the preeminence of the human factor over the much emphasized locational analysis.
