摘要:The levels of some common air pollutants (carbon (II) oxide, Carbon (IV) oxide, sulphur (IV) oxide and nitrogen (IV) oxide) produced in Makurdi metropolis as a result of vehicular emission were investigate using the Gasman air monitoring instrument. Four sample sites were chosen within the metropolis. These include: Wadata Market (WM), High Level Roundabout (HLR), Wurukum Roundabout (WR) and Lafia Junction (LJ) in north bank. The first three sites represent areas observed to have high rate of traffic congestion and commercial activities, while the later, (Lafia Junction) represent an area with normal traffic flow with less commercial activities. The mean levels of carbon II oxide observed was found to ranged between 12.80- 4.60ppm at Wadata market, 20.40-9.70ppm at High-level roundabout, 30.60-760ppm at Wurukum roundabout and 14.30 - 3.70ppm at Lafia junction during the dry season. While in the raining season the following result were observed; 14.20 - 4.20ppm at Wadata market, 28.00-5.80ppm high-level, 38.40-11.60ppm at Wurukum roundabout and 31.00-3.80ppm at Lafia junction. A range of 0.14ppm - 0.00ppm and 0.1ppm - 0.00ppm was observed for sulphur (IV) oxide for dry and raining season in the town respectively. While 0.13ppm-0.03ppm and 0.10ppm – 0.00ppm was recorded for nitrogen (II) oxide during the dry and raining season in the town respectively. The result of the analysis indicate that the metropolitan city of Makurdi had not been rigorously polluted, though it has been pollution some degree.
