摘要:The purpose of this study was to investigate respiratory function as a predictor of poor functional capacity (following VO_2 peak < 70% of predicted) in hemodialysis patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 51 males. Respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, and cardiopulmonary exercise tests were done in a non-dialysis day. Subjects were classified according to VO_2 peak (adequate and inadequate). The Student’s t-test was used to compare the respiratory variables. Two logistic regression models were used to identify the respiratory strength and pulmonary function predictors of low oxygen consumption. Maximal inspiratory pressure (Pi_(max), P=0.001), maximal expiratory pressure (Pe_(max), P=0.03), forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (%VEF_1, P=0.05), and forced vital capacity (%FVC, P=0.05) were higher in the adequate group. Maximal inspiratory pressure (Pi_(max)) was considered the predictor of poor functional capacity in the hemodialysis patients, which suggests that it can be applied in clinical practice.
