摘要:The purpose of this study was to produce a mathematical model to predict lean body mass (LBM) via the assessment of the arm muscular area (AMA). Forty-five healthy young females (27 ± 7 yrs; 66.5 ± 10.4 kg) were randomly divided into the validation group (VG, n = 30) and the cross-validation group (CG, n = 15). The subjects were submitted to anthropometric and hydrometric assessments. The AMA was obtained by measuring right arm circumference and triceps skin-fold. The derived model was: LBM = -49.459 + (0.350 × BM) + (0.411 × H) + (0.171 × AMA); r~2 = 0.91; SEE = 2.07 kg. No significant difference was found between the hydrometric assessment and the model prediction for the CG (P = 0.32; r~2 = 0.91; CV = 2%). Thus, the findings indicate that the mathematical Model #3 provides a similar assessment of the female’s LBM as the hydrometric measure.
