摘要:This study evaluated the aerobic power of two groups of university students: (a) veteran students of the medicine course from Centro Universitário de Votuporanga; and (b) new students who just entered the same course. The subjects were submitted to a progressive treadmill test to determine VO_2 max, VCO_2 and V_E to see if there were differences between the groups. The veteran students presented a VO_2 max of 38.7 ± 10.0, VCO_2 of 41.96 ± 11.6, and V_E of 74.2 ± 27.8. The new students presented a VO_2 max was 31.7 ± 7.0, VCO_2 38.5 ± 11.2, and V_E 62.9 ± 23.7. The findings indicate that the veteran students’ VO_2 max was significantly higher than the new students who just entered the medicine course. It is reasonable to conclude that the difference between the two groups is due to the veteran students increased participation in Futsal, handball, basketball, and volleyball. Thus, this supports the hypothesis that the sedentary behavior is responsible for the cardiorespiratory difference between the two groups of students.
