摘要:The town of Astorga, located on the Saint James pilgrim route, was witness in the Middle Age to the proliferation of a large number of small centers offering care. This complex and barely viable situation simplified over time and by the 18th century had consolidated in two larger and better equipped hospitals: the San Juan hospital, run by the Cathedral Chapter, and the Cinco Llagas hospital, under the supervision of a brotherhood. The aim of this paper is to analyze the historical evolution of the latter centre from various perspectives, with special reference to its role in providing care.
