摘要：During the First Carlist War, there were a variety of attempts to end the conflict by negotiation, the contents of which varied from a personal settlement through marriage to the granting of regional privileges. Political developments among the liberals forced the contents of the proposals to change. After the Toeplitz meeting, the Conservative groups asked D. Carlos to clarify and modify his agenda in order to make it more attractive to Spanish moderates as well as acceptable to European public opinion. The refusal to change lost the Carlist cause both support and credibility in Europe.
