摘要：Contemporary city is shaped territorial and functionally, pursuing competitive and economicconditions to being successfully integrated in a regional context; such process iscompleted with urban policies characterized for extending communication infrastructure,transport and ameliorating urban conditions. Nevertheless, competitive urban transformationbrings inherent increasing consumption patterns, including extensive automobileuse and also information and communication technology. Both cases are partially responsiblefor actual energy consumption and consequently, for the greenhouse gas effect. Theaim of this paper is discussing the urbanization as a relevant factor in the global environmentalimpacts, because of technology reconversion, intensive vehicles use and territoryrestructuration. Such analyses process is useful for understanding actual environmentalcrises and also, for searching another energy sources or urban strategies considered harmfulnessbut also, for mitigating the increasing social and economic vulnerability
