摘要:The present qualitative study concernsthe food practice concepts and meaningsof lower-class overweight women.Issues associated with social and culturalconditions in urban areas are part of atransformation process marked by lackof time and the quest of convenience.Ultra-processed food, athough seen asunnecessary in the past are nowadaysconsidered a basic staple by the lower classin Rio de Janeiro. This new reality confrontsthe contemporary discourse about healthyeating, which is focused on the demandfor consuming “healthier” products.Such scenario demands the informants aconstant reinterpretation about the act of“eating”, oscillating between pleasure andguilt. The current study discusses the needof understanding these expressions basedon a restricted framework of possibilitiesdetermined by micro and macrosocial aspects. These aspects shape thecontemporary mode of food productionand distribution in our society
