摘要：The objective of this study was to analyzethe nature of responsibility at work amonghealth professionals in a pediatric intensivecare unit. This qualitative research involveddata gathering from semi-structuredinterviews with a heterogenous group of14 professionals. Systematic observationswere carried out at different workinghours, across a total of eighty hours, andwere registered in a logbook. Discourseanalysis was based on Foucault. The studyshowed that the feeling of responsibility isconverted into a feeling of guilt by healthprofessionals, based on the intermeshingof truth systems that draw on the fieldsof legal power, Christianity and medicalknowledge, all of which impact on theindividual’s practices. The difficulties indealing with limits in the professionalsphere lead to conflicts betweenprofessionals which cause suffering whenit comes to dealing with the death ofchildren.
