摘要：Nos anos 80, em particular, pesquisadores e críticos analisaram o manifesto do CPC como síntese da produção artística e intelectual dos primeiros anos da década de 60. Na contramão dessa tendência, procurou-se neste artigo evidenciar a pluralidade do debate sobre o engajamento da arte e como isso interferiu na produção artística do período. Para compor essa relação, tomam-se como parâmetro os conflitos e divergências entre os cineastas e críticos do Cinema Novo e Carlos Estevam Martins. The New Cinema: revisiting popular culture Abstract In years 80, in special, researches and critics they analyzed the CPC manifesto as a synthesis of the artistic and intellectual production of the first years of 60s. Agains this trend, this article seeks to emphasize the plurality of the debate on the engagement of the art and this inter how with the artistic production of the period. In order to establish this relation, the conflicts and divergences between moviemakers and critics of the Cinema Novo and Carlos Estevam Martins is taken as a parameter.
