JEPonline 2014;17(6):34-44. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of concurrent training on body composition and lipid profile in overweight adolescents. Seventeen overweight adolescents 12 to 15 yrs of age, of both sexes, were divided into an intervention group (IG) and a control group (CG). In the IG, 7 subjects completed a 16-wk 3 times·wk-1 exercise program that consisted of 30 min of resistance exercises, 33 min of aerobic exercise, and a nutritional intervention. The CG consisted of 10 subjects with no intervention. Body mass, height, body mass index, waist circumference, triceps and subscapular skinfold thickness, sum of skinfolds thickness, body fat percentage, fasting glucose, triglycerides, HDL-C, LDL-C, and total cholesterol were measured as well as diet prescription. Reductions in body composition and lipid profile were observed in the IG at 8 and 16 wks while there were no changes in the CG. The findings indicate that concurrent training and dietary intervention improved body composition, central adiposity, and lipid profile.
