Ghrelin and Leptin hormones play roles in energy homeostasis and food intake. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of moderate-intensity exercise on plasma acylated ghrelin and serum leptin levels. Seven trained male subjects (age: 19.42±0.97 yr, body mass: 70.6±4.0 kg, VO2max: 63.14±6.09 ml·kg -1 ·min -1 ) voluntarily participated in two, 1 hr trials (exercise and control) in a random crossover design. In the exercise condition, subjects ran on a treadmill for 60 min (from 10:00 to 11:00 am) at 50% of VO2max. In the control condition, subjects rested for the same duration. Blood samples were collected before and immediately following the exercise and control protocols. In the exercise condition, plasma acylated ghrelin was increased by 45% and serum leptin was significantly decreased by 17% (P<0.05) with no apparent changes in the control condition. In conclusion, acute exercises of long duration - moderate intensity lower leptin levels while increasing acyleted ghrelin.
