摘要：It is exploratory-descriptive study, that had for objective to identify the knowledge of the family on mental disease as well as its doubts regarding the same. Ten were interviewed family of sick mental attended by the Integrated Center of Mental Health of Maringá in August of 1999.O method of collection of data it went to semi-structured interview, being accomplished the qualitative analysis of the data. The description of the results was presented in categories. It was possible to verify that the families dont have knowledge on the mental disease, that present doubts regarding the use of the medication; that mental half of the sick ones doesnt make correct use of the medication, that the sick mental it passes most of the unoccupied time just one of them possessed entail empregatício; that the family doesnt know how to work with the sick when he is in crisis.
