摘要：Although alcoholism is an illness that surpasses the individual limits of the person who drinks and it re-echoes negatively on the health of the families, is observed frequently that the cares to the other members of the family are rare and when they happen, they are making without a bigger theoretical sustentation. From this estimated, this bibliographical research with the objective was developed to search the knowledge already constructed on the subject family and alcoholism. The source of data was constituted by the propagated scientific production in national, Latin American and North American periodicals published in the period of 1990- 1994. From the examined studies, emerged material to construct a picture of the family who coexists with alcoholism, which shows it problems, it necessities and the strategies that the members use to face quotidian difficulties. The knowledge apprehended concerning the life of these families can, in some way, to contribute to endorse the professional interventions.
